The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has launched the IndiaAI Mission to support future talent in Artificial Intelligence (AI). With a budget of Rs 10,372 crore, the initiative aims to connect theoretical AI knowledge with practical applications.
Exciting News! The government is set to launch the IndiaAI Mission at the upcoming Global IndiaAI Summit on July 3-4 in New Delhi. The Ministry has already begun inviting nominations from leading institutes like IITs and NITs for students. Each institute will nominate 10 students from both B.Tech and M.Tech categories who are working on AI projects.
Eligibility
Engineering students who are pursuing B.Tech or M.Tech degrees at colleges ranked in the top 50 of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) are eligible to apply for the IndiaAI Mission. For B.Tech students, eligibility requires achieving an overall score of 80% or equivalent in their latest semester. M.Tech students must be enrolled in AI-related postgraduate programs and actively working on a thesis related to AI or similar subjects.
This eligibility criteria ensures that students from top-ranked engineering institutions are selected based on their academic performance and their focus on AI research.
IndiaAI Mission CEO Abhishek Singh has sent a letter to 50 engineering institutes, requesting each institute to nominate 10 students from each category who are actively engaged in AI projects. This initiative aims to recognize and support students who are making significant contributions to AI research and development. It seeks to foster a collaborative environment where top engineering institutes can showcase their talented students and promote innovative AI solutions.
“This support is crucial in closing the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, ensuring a skilled workforce capable of advancing in the field of AI,” the statement continued.
Under the initiative, selected B.Tech students will receive a fellowship of Rs 1 lakh, disbursed in three instalments. Meanwhile, M.Tech students will receive Rs 2 lakh, distributed over four tranches of Rs 50,000 each.
Benefits of IndiaAI Mission
- The fellowship program aims to provide financial aid to students pursuing AI projects, fostering a skilled workforce in this growing field.
- It complements existing fellowship opportunities and supports students throughout the duration of their projects.
